Fugazzi

The underlining theme of Almir's illustrative works is the omnipresence of technologies and the mass media in the 21st century. Straight, mostly black lines dominate the illustrations - hinting at wire frame aesthetics of computer-aided designs. The color red, the only color used next to black and white, symbolizes the emotionality of the human spirit. Humans in Almir's illustrations are always drawn to resemble robots - machines that follow instructions without consent, but surrounded and driven by emotions.

In the particular context of Fugazzi - meaning fake of superficial - Almir emphasizes the short lifespan of today's media images: He extracts the essences of the newspapers' photographs, thus creating a different social and aesthetical context which enables them to live a longer life and turn into icons of the fading headlines they represent.
